See how we transformed the main living spaces in this dated beach cottage into a luxury, modern farmhouse inspired space with fun Bohemian accents. The Princess Tide is available to rent for your next beach vacation via Roaming Pineapple Vacations!

Though a bit dated and rough around the edges, we knew the bones of this Outer Banks property were good. From the open layout on the top floor to the multiple bedrooms with en-suite baths this house had the chops to make for a fantastic place to kick back and make sun soaked memories.

The first step of course was the monumental task of removing all the 20 year old furniture and kitschy 1990s beach decor. We thank Dare Challenge for taking a ton of furnishings off our hands. Then the entire house got a paint refresh with cool beachy tones on the top level, calming green/gray in the bedrooms and a bright white to bring the dated wood trim and doors into the modern era. Next we installed Luxury Vinyl Flooring throughout the home, another huge task but so worth it. Fresh LED recessed lighting, new speakers, outlets and more and this beast was ready for the next big project…

The Kitchen

While the layout of the kitchen was not changed, removing the bar height wall to extend the new countertops helped to maximize the multi purpose counter for prepping and serving meals to the big groups this home can sleep. The striking waterfall edge to carry the sparkling white quartz all the way to the floor was the cherry on top of this beautiful kitchen remodel.

The Dining Area

A New Coastal Farmhouse bead chandelier sets the tone for the extra long farmhouse dining table. This amazing piece was in rough shape after 20 years of rentals, but my woodworking mama brought it back to life by exposing the natural wood beauty underneath and taming the tired navy paint with a fresh coat of farmhouse white. I added soft tufted nail head trim end chairs from The Gray Barn that coordinate with the barstools for a finished look.

The Ships Watch

This amazing feature of this home was so underutilized with 2 oversized chairs taking over this space. A breakfast nook set and 2 wicker chairs provides ample seating for up to 8 adults (or more kids) to enjoy the view of the Currituck Light house over morning coffee or gather around for a friendly board game or virtual game with the new Infinity game table.

The Living Room

I knew the second I laid eyes on this living room that it beckoned for a giant sectional where many can sink into for a siesta or movie marathon after a long hot day at the beach. We added 2 corner chairs, multiple poufs and a large ottoman to make this space cozy and accommodating for everyone to relax together. The dated media cabinets were replaced with the same cabinetry and quartz countertops as in the kitchen, shelves removed and a big reminder to “Relax”. A large scale beachy collage gives this huge space some personality and Coastal Corolla flair. Coordinating throw pillows with bohemian patterns and coral and blue accents tie the space together in the Boho Coastal vibe.

The Top Floor deck

The top level deck wasn’t so much of a transformation as it was just a freshen up. A rusty old dining set was removed and replaced with a cozy PVC wicker conversation set and 4 new composite Adirondack chairs to create 2 different zones for taking in the sunrise and breathing in the fresh salty air. Around the corner the existing Rocking chairs were pressure washed and put back into function. A good power washing and scrubbing of the deck and windows made the deck shine again!

The Game Room

The pool table was the only element that stayed in this room’s transformation. The kitchenette got a refresh with the same new cabinets and Quartz Counter tops as the main kitchen. Open shelving and a luxury beverage fridge created a modern built-in bar feel that suits the game room’s function. The old rusty washer and dryer replaced with newer models, and drapes removed to let in the light and fun ambiance of the pool just through the large sliding glass door. Light, beachy barstools and counters give you a place to sit between shooting pool or round of darts while catching your favorite sporting event on the large flat screen Roku TV.
