Did you love my Beginner’s Guide to Feng Shui for you Home?
Ready to get started in attracting love, joy and abundance to your life with a little Feng Shui?
Great! But also, Stop! First you will want to do what I call a Feng Shui Cleanse..
Don’t attempt to Feng Shui your space before you have done your Pre-work!
Bringing your home’s energy into balance is a wonderful thing, however, too often when trying to enhance positive energy, people end up enhancing the negative because they didn’t start with a proper cleanse of the space!
Set yourself up for success with these 3 things you can do to help cleanse, refresh and prepare your home for your Feng Shui consultation.
De-clutter and Organize
Clutter is a harbinger of bad energy. When your home is packed to the brim with things, especially those that are broken, damaged or no longer serve a purpose in your life, the energy can’t flow freely. This is called stagnation. Stagnated energy is not a good thing.
Clear up any stagnated energy by going room by room and de-cluttering and organizing the best you can.
DO NOT try to do this all in one day. It aint gonna happen!
Work on one problem area at a time, and de-clutter and organize it completely before you move on to the next. It doesn’t have to be magazine worthy, but it should be clear that everything has a purpose and a place.
Start with 1 area at a time, and work your way around the home starting at the front door and moving clock-wise around your home until you are back at the door.
Sometimes it helps to start with something small, like a junk drawer, then move onto the bigger problem areas.
The 3 box method can be very helpful in aiding you in making good decisions about those items that no longer serve you.
Set out 3 boxes and label them Trash, Donate and Keep. The process is pretty much self-explanatory.
Trash – Anything damaged, un-fixable, or useless/worthless that no longer serves you.
Donate – Items in goof, working condition that you haven’t used in the last year (or less, depending on your comfort level).
Keep – Just items that serve a purpose in your home, be it sentimental, functional, or necessity.
Pro-tip: If you are like me, and you have trouble “letting go” of things, enjoy some liquid courage before you start and think of Elsa in Frozen, and just “Let it Go!!!”
Clean and Cleanse
Ok, now that your home is organized and clutter free, you may notice it is already feeling lighter! Let’s take it a step further.
Nothing lifts the energy of a home like a nice deep clean to show it your love and appreciation.
A thorough clean also helps to jostle that stagnated energy out of its resting place.
I swear by my Dyson Animal (from Amazon), yes, you have to empty the canister often – but I love that it is proof of how much gunk it picks up out of your carpets! (And I have big fluffy dogs, so I beat the crap out of my vacuum cleaners) This thing is pretty indestructible.
You can also deep clean your carpets using a Carpet Cleaner (from Amazon). I do this at least twice a year to pull out what the vacuum can’t, and for emergencies when one of my fur-babies or my real baby has an accident. Always good to have one! You also should consider cleansing your home energetically, also known as space clearing.
The obvious choice is to hire a professional spiritual healer that can come in and rid your home of any negativity quite thoroughly at least once a year.
But you can also DIY it and try your hand at smudging.
Burning sage or Palo Santo wood and saying a prayer as you walk around the home, blessing it and asking all negativity to clear can be quite effective.
You will need a lighter, a Sage bundle or Palo Santo wood, a feather and heat resistant bowl. Or you can buy a Smudging kit (from Amazon) that has everything you need.
Light some candles or incense and play some soft music to help set the mood. You will want to be a in a grounded state and coming from a place of peace and love. Performing a space clearing while your agitated or sidetracked will very likely not get you the results you need.
Be sure to crack some windows before you begin to give the negative energy a place to exit!
Like you did with the de-cluttering, start at the front door and work your way clockwise around the home. Don’t forget the garage and interiors of your cars!
Set your Intentions
The final step in preparing your home for Feng Shui is to set an intention. Think of this as cleansing your mind in preparation of beginning to Feng Shui your home.
If you have never done this before, its easy, and anyone and everyone can do it.
Find a comfy spot in the center of your home and meditate and ground yourself.
Think about your life goals, short and long term. What do you want your future to look like?
Are you looking to add a baby to the family? Secure a better, more lucrative job? Maybe you are seeking peace after a rough year of hardship. Whatever it is that you want, let it be known to the universe.
Whatever your spiritual journey, let your God, Angels, and the Sages know your wishes, and plant the seed. Leave space in your heart and your home to accept the gifts and guidance that is to come, and let your home be the haven that will nourish those seeds into reality.
When your ready, hire a Feng Shui consultant to help you navigate your home’s energy and ensure it is doing the “heavy lifting” of making your intentions come true.
