See how we transformed the 6 bedrooms in this dated beach cottage into a luxury, modern farmhouse inspired space with fun Bohemian accents.

PS – The Princess Tide is available to rent for your next beach vacation via Roaming Pineapple Vacations!

Though a bit dated and rough around the edges, we knew the bones of this Outer Banks property were good. From the open layout on the top floor to the multiple bedrooms with en-suite baths this house had the chops to make for a fantastic place to kick back and make sun soaked memories.

Check out the transformation of the main living spaces HERE.

First let’s talk about the basics of what we did to every room to create the blank slate before we added a special personality to each room. The first step of course was removing all the 20 year old furniture and kitschy 1990s beach decor. We thank Dare Challenge for taking a ton of furnishings off our hands.

Then all the bedrooms got a paint refresh with Sherwin Williams Oyster Bay with Bright White trim to bring the dated wood trim and doors into the modern era and bring a cozy serenity to the stark white rooms.

Luxury Vinyl Flooring from LL Flooring in River Walk was installed throughout the home for a cohesive look along with new Sunco adjustable LED recessed lighting and coordinating Harbor Breeze Bradbury fans.

The tired metal blinds were also replaced with luxurious Sheer & Blackout Curtains that have a blackout layer for ultimate privacy and comforting cool darkness at night and a sheer layer for letting that gorgeous light through during the day.

Every room also has a flat screen Roku TV mounted to the wall opposite the bed (not shown in the pictures) so guests can kick back and watch their own favorite programming at the end of a long day at the beach.

The Boat Room

The top floor master King bedroom’s new persona is inspired by a top down view of a sailboat gliding through turquoise waters that coordinate with the oyster canvas art from icanvas.com anchored over the bed. The room takes on a nautical theme with the whimsical iron mermaid, rope accented benches & rope mirror, and driftwood colored night stands flanked by farmhouse style gooseneck wall-mounted sconces. A soft king size tufted upholstered panel bed add to the luxury of the Tommy Bahama Bedding that beckons one to relax. The vaulted ceilings and gas fireplace make a statement in this grand room in addition to the functional console that doubles as ample storage for belongings. The private en-suite bathroom in this master features a large jetted tub & separate shower and dual sinks making it easily the best setup in the house.

Before…Plain Top Level Master Suite

Now…. A Luxurious Nautical Master Suite

The Turtle Room

Coming down the stairs from the top floor, the first room to the left is the larger King Master Suite on this level. The ambiance of this room is my favorite where beautiful sea turtles dance above the stunning banana leaf headboard centered between two industrial side tables with mounted wall sconces. We added a soft gray bench on the foot of the bed for added convenience and color. An oversized watercolor painting of the sea inspires you escape and surrender to the Island life as you sink into the light bright Tommy Bahama bedding. But like the other Masters of course there is ample storage in the form of open shelving (not pictured) to tuck away all your belongings. This king master features a private en-suite bathroom with combo shower/tub, and deck access.

Before…Heavy and Dark King Master

Now….Light and Breezy King Master Suite

The Starfish Room

Just next door a second bedroom with en-suite bathroom was underutilized as a mere Queen room when there was plenty of room for a King. So we upgraded the bed to a simple king size tufted platform bed and made this a more serene room with calming hues of green, beige and white with beautiful Tommy Bahama bedding. Relax with no worries in your private suite with handy Bedside USB Lamps on the farmhouse style pedestal night stands, whimsical starfish art overhead layered over a durable indoor/outdoor Palm Frond rug. An antique white storage cabinet opposite the bed sits under the mounted Roku TV for extra storage. With only 1 exterior wall, this is one of the quietest rooms in the house on stormy nights.

Now… A Beachy Serene King Master Suite

The Pineapple Room

Next door to the Starfish Room is what used to be an awkward pyramid bunk that didn’t fit the space and even blocked the deck access door. We decided to give this room dual purpose and make it fitting and cozy for kiddos or adults. So now its an adorable kid friendly room geared for the little ones that aren’t yet big enough to sleep in the big kids bunk room downstairs and want to be close to parents. We made sure to keep it comfy and neutral enough that would also be comfortable for two solo adults that may be sharing a room. In this room two low profile twin platform beds are anchored to grand wingback woven rattan headboards with beautiful tropical plantation inspired comforters that coordinate with the vibrant pineapple art. Wall mounted lights for easy story time are installed over a shared farmhouse style night stand between the beds. Check the closet for a Pack & Play if you need to make this room a Nursery for baby, bed rails for smaller children, and even some extra toys. Open x-frame shelving provides easy storage for clothes, toys, books to keep your kiddos organized through your trip.

Before…Not so Functional Bunk Room

Now…Multi-FUN-ctional Twin Room

The Palm Room

The final room on the second level was previously another bunk room with 2 twin bunks taking up the whole room, with no space left for storage, tv or even a fan. This is also the only bathroom on this level that is accessible by hallway as the others are true en-suite baths. We gave this room a big upgrade making it yet another king master since it has a connecting full bathroom. Though smaller than the other King rooms, the design is not lacking with its lovely blend of sunset oranges and jungle greens in the Tommy Bahama Bedding to compliment the rustic Mango wood nightstands layered over a cozy jute rug. Because of the window placement we couldn’t mount the original lights planned for this room, so we opted for upgraded lamps with USB plugs for easy charging of electronics. We also installed a fan and opposite the bed sits a beautiful coral embroidered bench under the new mounted Roku TV. This room is one of our favorite transformations, and it looks bigger than before!

Before…Tiny Bunk Room

Now…Elegant King Room

The Bunk Room

The ground floor bedroom got quite the transformation as well. As it’s connecting full bathroom is also accessible from the game room, it didn’t sit right with us to keep it as a King Master. And it’s size was just right to make it the new bunk room and still have room leftover for a teen hangout. The spacious room now has 2 pyramid bunks with a Full bed on bottom, twin bunk on top and a twin trundle underneath EACH and Modern nightstands with drawers to accommodate the full beds. So having the floor space to pull out the trundles was key to keeping this room functional. We chose bright minty blues for this youthful space with the Barefoot Bungalow reversible quilt comforters and “Take me to the Sea” accent pillows.

The bunk room also now has a large flat screen Roku TV and we installed an HDMI cable that is ready to plug in your kids’ favorite gaming console for lots of gaming fun and hanging out on the oversized bean bag chairs and soft bunks. We did remove the ceiling fan and installed blinds over these windows for safety reasons and kept the additional furniture minimal so that guests can configure the room to what suites them best.

Before…Plain White King Room

Now…Fun Teen Bunk and Hangout Suite

It took us 7 months to complete this top to bottom renovation on this beautiful North Carolina Beach House, and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome! We named her “The Princess Tide” and now, you can even rent this jewel for your next beachy vacation in the Outer Banks, check it out at Roaming Pineapple.
