Every household with with furry pets NEEDS a Carpet cleaner. Period.
As careful you are and as well trained as you think your fur-babies are, accidents do happen. The dog eats something he shouldn’t have and throws up (or worse – it comes out the other end) on your brand new Persian Rug. The cat is an a*hole and knocks over a FULL glass of red wine onto the white carpet. Or, you have kids. Nuff said.
Messes are a part of life, and sometimes baking soda and elbow grease just doesn’t cut it. You need something that will thoroughly wash, sanitize and lift stains and odors from your beloved carpet, area rugs and even upholstery and quickly! Regularly deep cleaning your carpets will also increase the longevity and vibrant colors of the fibers.
I LOVE my puppers..but boy are they messy!
Micky is my rambunctious, high energy Border Collie. Thankfully he doesn’t shed much, but tends to empty is bladder when encountering a stranger, hearing thunder, fireworks, or even the smoke alarm. So we needed something that could lift that pesky pet urine smell from our main living room rug (where accidents often happen).
Then there’s Kahlua. Our very first baby girl and princess. Shes a fluffy white/gray husky who sheds A LOT. She’s also our resident kleptomaniac.. she steals my daughter’s stuffed animals (more than I can count) and de-stuffs them, eats anything that smells relatively similar to food, and will swallow whole anything edible left unsupervised. Needless to say, what goes in must come out, and its not always in the form you would hope for. And she doesn’t always make it to the great outdoors to do her business (she’s 11 years old!).
So we have been through our fair share of rugs and carpet cleaners.
Today I’m spilling all my secrets, disasters, and experiences over the years and am reviewing my personal experience with the BISSELL ProHeat 2X® Revolution™ Pet Pro.

Why Deep Clean your Carpets?
If you are reading this Product Review you probably already have pets, and messes, and know you need a Carpet Cleaner. This review is more the ammo you need to confirm which one to buy in the sea of carpet cleaners available. If this is you – AWESOME feel free to jump ahead.
Maybe you are still skeptical as to why you would want a carpet cleaner. Your a clean, organized, and careful person. Your fur-baby may be small and well trained and groomed. Seems like a non-issue. Here are a few things to consider.
Good Housekeeping:
According to Angie’s List, in addition to vacuuming at least twice a week, pet owners should clean high-traffic areas every 3-6 months AND professionally clean the entire carpet twice per year.
Longevity:
Deep cleaning your carpet consistently extends the life of your carpet
Feng Shui:
A thorough deep cleaning of your house and carpets is a great way to invigorate and freshen up your home’s positive energy. Read more about this here.
Cost Savings:
A professional Carpet cleaning can set you back up to $300 for only 1500 square feet. For ONE VISIT. So you save money and get multiple years manufacturer warranty guaranteed if you purchase your own carpet cleaner. Win!
Choose your Cleaner:
One of the great things about a carpet cleaner is you can choose what cleaning chemicals you use and don’t use. When I just need to freshen up the house, I have used just hot water and a couple drops of my favorite essential oil (like Lemon or Orange!). Save those chemicals for Baaaaaad stains.
The Product
The BISSELL ProHeat 2X® Revolution™ Pet Pro Carpet Cleaner is exactly what is sounds like. Its a kick-ass carpet cleaner designed specifically for tackling the *ahem* unique messes that come with Pet care. This thing is tough on everything you need it to be tough on:
- Tracked-in mud (or other gross things from outside)
- Food spills (hey, it happens)
- Accidents of the vomit, urine and feces varieties (yuck)
- Hair/Fur that is stomped deep in the fibers (bonus!)
And not just the visual stain, this thing tackles the lingering odors that result as well with the Professional Pet Urine Eliminator + Oxy Formula. You know what I’m talking about…
Features
A couple cool features I love about this Carpet Cleaner that my previous cleaners did not have are the CleanShot pre-treater and the Upholstry Tool.
The CleanShot pre-treater allows you target a specific area before rolling the cleaner over it to ensure the tough set in stain comes out. Think of it like the spot remover spray you put on that mustard stain on your husband’s white t-shirt, before throwing it in the wash. Same logic. Super nifty.
I didn’t think I would like or use the upholstery tool… until Little miss E decided high-chairs are for schmucks.
This kid refuses to sit in her high-chair anymore and lives for eating dinner in “Daddy’s Chair” – which means my beautiful mint colored upholstered fabric dining chairs have all kinds of lovely stains on them now.. kethcuppy finger prints, spilled milk, and lots of other things.. I was literally about to replace these chairs with solid wood versions when I remembered I had a tool for that! The upholstery tool was easy to click into the cleaner, and I had my chairs deep cleaned in minutes. They were also dirty again… an hour later.. when she ate her next meal.. so this will be ongoing thing – LOL.
This model also comes with an EZ Clean Brush Roll Cover. If you have experience with pet hair and carpet cleaners, you know how important this is. Let me put it this way, one of our previous carpet cleaners did NOT have this feature. You actually had to get out a screwdriver to remove the brush roll cover. I am Lazy. I did not do this. Guess what happened? By the 3rd or 4th use, my brushes and cover were so covered in dried, caked on hair that I had to try to hack it all off with…coincidentally.. a screwdriver.. lol. And even then it was in pretty bad shape.
Now, with the BISSELL Pet Pro, I can lift off both pieces super easily and rinse them clean so they are sparkly and ready for the next inevitable mess.
The Dual Dirtlifter power brushes are pretty darn efficient in my experience so far. What used to take me a few passes, can come up clean in ONE PASS with this BISSELL. No joke. Could be the brushes, could also be the Heatwave Technology. I don’t really care which, but it definitely works. And I’ll even show you proof of that.
A Great Cause
And finally, because I love a feel good story, if you needed another reason to go with the BISSELL, I’m going to tug at your heartstrings with this little cutie..
BISSELL has its own Pet Foundation in which every BISSELL pet product sold turns into up to $10 donated to pet shelters and rescues by BISSELL. I just love a great cause.
Putting it to the Test
Get ready, some of these images are NOT for the queasy stomachs out there. We’re about to get down and dirty and graphic with my REAL story of how I use the BISSELL ProHeat 2X® Revolution™ Pet Pro in my actual home… with actual pet messes.. there may be poop involved. Brace yourself!
I promise no chocolate was used in the making of these photos.. this is REAL. (much to my own dismay…)
Before
So this happened…. yeah. Kahlua got into something she shouldn’t have and it upset her stomach to this point.. There is not much worse than liquid poo in your carpets to make for a long scrubbing session. This is actually what inspired me to write this post. I normally would have gone to town scrubbing the mess before running the carpet cleaner over it. However, it was the middle of the work day and I just didn’t have the time, I had to be in a meeting in 15 minutes. So what better way to put my new carpet cleaner to the test! So no pre-scrub, I got straight to it with my Bissell.
First Pass
My Bissell plugged in and loaded with hot water and a cap full of the Pet Oder Eliminator, I cringed and started rolling over the mess starting on the right side of the carpet, working my way to the left. You can see in the photo above with just barely a pass over the right side of the mess, you can hardly see it! I was floored.
First pass complete, and out of water, above is a shot of the carpet freshly cleaned. Pretty good right? However, you can see there is a slight yellow twinge to my otherwise Blue/white/gray rug. A second pass would be necessary.
Not that you want to be further grossed out, but the proof is in the pudding, above is the dirty water chamber after the first pass. GROSS. And I had JUST deep cleaned this rug no less than 3 weeks ago, so its not like this is a years worth of grime, this is all the poo mess.
One thing I want to prepare you for if you have pets, are the clumps of fur that are left behind after your first pass. This is AWESOME. The Bissell literally pulls up the pet fur that is too deep for the vacuum cleaner to suck up and you are left with these clumps than can be picked up and tossed. It may sound weird, but I LOVE this. When I do my regular carpet deep cleaning, I always vacuum thoroughly before doing the deep clean and every single time, I get these clumps. HELLO VALIDATION!
Second Pass
Alright, up next is the second pass. Considering how gross and dark the dirty water was after the first pass, I knew a second would be necessary. And look how gross the water STILL is! Its a few shades lighter, but still.
And here you go! Second pass complete, look how bright and vibrant my rug is again! And no trace of poo!
Conclusion
So when it comes to pet messes, this carpet cleaner definitely holds it weight and stands up to the challenge without a flinch. I am so relieved to know that next time there is a pet mess I can just hit it with the Bissell and get back to work. No pre-scrubbing required! Did I mention it was very easy to clean afterwards? The dirty water chamber pops out and goes back in very easily and the brush roll cover comes off just as easily. I didn’t have to fiddle with it for any amount of time to get it off and back on. A quick rinse and re-assemble and I was back to work!
